However, the blood test can detect the presence of the HAV virus only after exposal to the infection for about 2 to 5 weeks. In the early stage, the blood test shows no results.

The safety of the Hepatitis A vaccine during pregnancy isn’t yet determined. During pregnancy, if you become a victim of Hepatitis A, your doctor may recommend the administration of immune globulin (NIGH) along with the hepatitis A vaccine. The agent is safer for you, and it proactively helps prevent the acute hepatitis infection.

According to the drug authorizing body FDA, Hepatitis A vaccination falls under pregnancy category C. Hence, doctors recommend that you take such vaccinations only after consulting the doctor. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends that the pregnant women, who are at higher risk of HAV exposure, can take the vaccination in their gestation phase.
