1. Peachy Yam Bake:

Appropriate Age:

8 months onwards

What You Will Need:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbs flour
  • 2 tsp wheat germ
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbs butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes
  • 2 cups mashed peaches

How To:

  • Combine the sugar, flour, wheat germ and spices.
  • Beat the butter thoroughly to achieve a bread crumb-like texture.
  • For older babies, you can add nuts at this stage.
  • Mix yams, peaches and the butter mixture and bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes.

2. Sweet Potato Risotto:

Appropriate Age:

8 months onwards

What You Will Need:

  • 2 sweet potatoes
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 4 cups vegetable stock
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1½ cups arborio rice
  • ¾ cup white grape juice
  • 1 tbsp rosemary
  • 1½ tsp thyme
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt

How To:

  • Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them.
  • In a preheated oven of 350 degrees F, for 30 minutes, toss the sweet potatoes with 1 tablespoon olive oil and roast.
  • Mix them in a food processor with ¼ cup chicken stock and keep aside.
  • In a large saucepan, fry the onion and sweet potatoes in oil.
  • To this mixture, add garlic and arborio rice.
  • Now pour white grape juice, followed by stock, giving time for each to absorb completely.
  • Mix the sweet potato mixture with this and sprinkle rosemary, thyme and butter.
  • Wait till the risotto attains a soft texture with all liquid absorbed.

3. Sweet Potato And Cheese Mash:

What You Will Need:

  • 120g sweet potato, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium carrot, peeled and diced
  • 25g hard cheese, such as cheddar, grated

How To:

  • Boil the vegetables together until they are just tender.
  • Mash or puree them along with cheese.

4. Sweet Potato and Plantain Soup:

What You Will Need:

  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1 green plantain (peeled and sliced)
  • Olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 cup milk – breast milk or formula

How To:

  • After roasting the garlic and onions in the oil, sauté the plantain along with it.
  • Once browned, add chicken stock and bay leaf.
  • Mix sweet potatoes and simmer.
  • After cooling, blend the mixture in a food processor after removing the bay leaf.
  • Once again bring back the mixture to the pan and stir it with milk.
  • Cook for a while and the soup is ready!
